This year’s Valentine’s Day may prove to be Heart-break Day as well for scores of girls in the State. Ganesh of Mungaaru Male fame is tying the knot with Shilpa, a distant relative in Brahmavar near Udupi, the bride’s hometown.
According to sources, the wedding, scheduled to take place in a few days, will be a low-key affair with only family members and close friends in attendance. The actor will then hold a reception on February 23 here.
Ganesh, who has the distinction of notching up six hits in a row – from Chellata to the recent Gaalipata – made a humble beginning, acting in a telefilm, directed by an NRI. He then went on to act in several serials, including Attige, Sadhane, Yadva Tadva, Vataara, Papa Pandu and others.
Noticing his flair for comedy, he was chosen to host ‘Comedy Time’, a show, where the host would call up viewers and play pranks on them. The viewers were hooked, thanks to Ganesh’s unique style of greeting. He came to be known as Comedy Time Ganesh.
Ganesh got his ‘break’ in films, playing a villain in Tapori, which had Prema and Hamsalekha’s son Alankar in the lead. He was then cast as hero of Chellata opposite Rekha. The film ran for 125 days in some centres.
Then Mungaaru Male happened. This Yogaraj Bhat-directed film had Ganesh playing to his strengths and eventually became a landmark in the actor’s fledgling career. Mungaaru Male was followed by Hudugaata, Cheluvina Chittara and Krishna. Cheluvina Chittara broke box office records and helped director S Narayan recover from his earlier failure.
Though Hudugaata and Krishna, both remakes, met with lukewarm reception initially, Ganesh’s acting was praised by both critics and the audience, which went back to theatres. His role of Gani in the latest Gaalipata has been appreciated as well.
