5 layouts await Governors nod
Bangalore, DHNS:

Five months after BDA proposed five residential layouts on the fringes of Bangalore, the project has got real kickstart. BDA Commissioner M K Shankaralinge Gowda on Thursday said the project has been put forward for the perusal of Governor Rameshwar Thakur.

Mr Thakur is learnt to have assured BDA Chairman Dilip Rau that the proposal would be taken up during the next meeting of the State Executive Committee. After the announcement of the five layouts — named after Dr K Shivarama Karanth, Nadaprabhu Kempegowda, D Devaraj Urs, Kyasamballi Chengalraya Reddy and S Nijalingappa — the project was caught in limbo, following the fall of the coalition government.

With the proposal formally moved to the Governor’s office, the project is expected to be on the roll soon. The layouts will be developed with land owners as partners. Around 90,000 sites of various dimensions are expected to be allotted in the five layouts. The land for the layouts are spread over 56 villages on the outskirts of the City. The total estimated cost of the project is over Rs 8,000 crore.

The layouts will also focus on the economically weaker sections, with about 100 acres of land in each layout dedicated to this segment. The layouts will be formed in locations covering Doddaballapur Road, Hesaraghatta Road, Magadi Road, Mysore Road, Airport Road, Varthur village, Hosur Road and Sarjapur Road.

Other projects

Gowda added that around 9,000 sites had been allotted in the Arkavathy Layout and future allotment would depend on the Supreme Court verdict. Detailing the ongoing infrastructure projects in the City, the Commissioner said two underpasses — at Agara-ORR Junction and Iblur-ORR Junction — would be completed in February. The Magadi Road-Chord Road underpass is expected to be completed by March.
