The Public Works Department should immediately repair a stretch of Malur-Hosur road which connects Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike activists demanded.
They staged a rasta rokho at Alambadi in Malur taluk on Thursday, in order to draw the PWD officials’ attention towards the issue.
A sum of Rs 2 crore has been released for the repair of a stretch of 17 km road from Malur to Sampangere.
However, till this day the work was not launched, alleged President of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike taluk unit S Prakash. The traffic movement was disrupted ince morning due to the protest. The activists raised slogans when the PWD assistant engineer Shivanna and Kolar PWD engineer Prakash arrived at the spot.
The officials were made to walk a stretch of one kilometre from Alambadi gate to personally inspect the pathetic conditions of the road. At certain points, on the road a lot of potholes were found due to the movement of heavy loaded trucks. Besides, the recently asphalted road was also damaged, probably due to sub-standard works, alleged the protesters.
The officials informed the protesters that the tender was called and by May the road repair works will be complete. Following the assurance by the officials, the activists withdrew their protest.
Members of Lorry Owners’ Association, Bus Owners’ Association, Tempo and Minidor Owners’ Associations along with villagers from Sampangere, Alambadi, Sonnur, Siddanahalli, Rajakrishnapur and Jayamangala had extended their support to the KRV activists in the protests.
