Convert lambani thandas into revenue villages
DH News Service, Bangalore:
A delegation of lambanis on Thursday took out a procession against the increasing atrocities on lambani women from the Mahatma Gandhis statue to the Raj Bhavan and submitted a memorandum to the Governor Rameshwar Thakur.

The delegation, led by Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee General Secretary Prakash Rathod, consisted of former ministers Dr Shankar Naik, Baburao Chavan and B T Lalita Naik and former MLC Jalaja Naik.

In the memorandum, the leaders have expressed their ire at the increasing atrocities on lambani women. They said recently a 14-year old girl was raped and killed at Harehalli village in Belur taluk and in another incident at Seva Hall Thanda in Basavana Bagewadi taluk, a 16-year old girl was gang raped.

Stating that in both cases police have not initiated any action, they sought action against culprits. Moreover, they have also demanded a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to each of the victims’ family. The delegation also appealed to the Governor to take immediate steps to convert 300 lambani thandas into revenue villages..
