Localites detained certain people illegally transporting cattle in a vehicle here and handed over to the police after assaulting them on Sunday.

Police said the residents of Balehole blocked a pick-up vehicle carrying four cows from Basarikatte to Magundi and assaulted the persons in it. They handed over Anil Fernandes, Edwin D’Souza, Bona Pereira, Sadashiva to police.

After enquiry, police registered a case of illegal cattle trafficking and surrendered before court. The arrested have also filed a petition with the police in this connection.
