Chamber of Commerce office-bearers and some customers gheraoed the Madikeri branch of ICICI Bank alleging that customers were being deceived there.
The protesters alleged that some of the customers having about Rs 1,000 deposit in the bank had received notice that unless they pay Rs 4,900 their accounts would be cancelled.
Accusing that the bank was deceiving them, the protesters took the branch manager into task. They also expressed their disappointment over police arriving on the spot owing to the request of the bank manager.
They said their money should be returned within 15 days after closing their accounts, and warned that they would lock out the bank unless their plea was not considered seriously.
Madikeri Chamber of Commerce President Ambekal Naveen Kushalappa, former president K M B Ganesh, Entrepreneurs Co-operative Society President Babuchandra Ullagaddi and some customers were among the protesters.
