Children's train gathering dust
DH News Service, Madikeri:

The children’s train of Raja Seat here has once again been pushed into corners. But this time, it is not due to faults in the machine. The train has been temporarily kept out of use just to save the kids from danger!

Yes, white ants have swallowed many parts of the wooden slabs kept below the tracks and the tracks have damaged. The total situation just reflects indifference of the CMC towards the maintenance of the children’s train.

Besides, it also makes clear that how much the special committee constituted for the development of Raja Seat is interested towards the progress of the park.

Main attraction

Children’s train is the main attraction of Raja Seat. Apart from Cubbon Park in Bangalore there are only a few places which have children’s train. Though Madikeri does not have any railway connectivity, the children and their parents were experiencing the pleasure of travelling in the train at least through this kids’ train. The present condition of the train has once again disappointed them.

When the CMC engineers are busy in laying concrete roads, will they get time to attend the urgent need of children’s train- is the question of the public.

The train was lying unused for some time because of technical snag in the machine, much before Dasara. Now, after inspecting the situation, a retired railway engineer from Mysore, who has the contract of the train, has observed that the facility can be relaunched only after repairing the tracks.

However, nobody has answer to the question how long it would take to set it right. CMC Commissioner D H Raya said the train had been stopped for the safety of the users as there was a chance of derailing in two places. As the engine is in good condition, the service will be resumed as soon as the tracks are repaired, he assured.
