Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt and his long-time girlfriend Manyata on Monday solemnised their marriage as per Hindu rituals at a simple ceremony, four days after their secret court wedding in Goa.
While the registered marriage was attended by close friends, Dutt’s family apparently had no idea about Monday’s wedding ceremony. His two sisters Priya and Namrata were conspicuous by their absence at the wedding, which took place at the home of Manyata’s friend Pradeep in Varsova in North West Mumbai.
This is Dutt’s third marriage after his divorce proceedings against former model Rhea Pillai was formally completed last month. His first wife Richa Sharma died of cancer.
Dutt’s daughter from Richa, Trishala, who lives in New York, refused to comment on the wedding.
It is rumoured that the two sisters as well as daughter Trishala were not happy with the wedding, although Priya Dutt said that she was happy for her brother. “I am very happy for them. When it comes to his (Sanjay’s) happiness, everyone in the family gets together to celebrate,” she said.
“Sanjay is a grown-up man and I don’t think its a matter of acceptance or not. It’s a matter of wishing the very best for each other in the family. I wish great happiness for him which he very much deserves after all he has gone through,” she added.
At the wedding ceremony, Sanjay was wearing a golden hued kurta-pyjama with a red embroidered chunri, while Manyata was wearing a red and gold coloured lahenga with golden embroidery.
After the marriage, a beaming Dutt wearing a golden hued kurta-pyjama with a red embroidered chunri said he was very happy and thanked all his fans. He asked the press, “Are you happy with my marriage?” On getting an affirmative reply, he thanked them and said, “I am also very happy and I thank you for the positive support.” Manyata, who appeared overwhelmed by the occasion, said “I am so happy that I don’t have words to express.”
