The Corps of Detectives (COD) on Monday filed an additional First Information Report (FIR) in the first JMFC court here against Mohammed Asif, the associate of terror suspects Mohammed Ghouse and Asadullah.
The CoD move might enable it to seek the extension of Asif’s police custody.
The judge, Mr Srinivas, put off the hearing to Tuesday. As soon as the hearing began, advocates under the aegis of the Hubli Bar Association shouted slogans against terrorists and boycotted the court proceedings.
The slogan shouting intensified as soon as advocate Mohammednavar, appearing for Asif, presented himself in the court. CoD DySP S S Khot said that the Hubli Gokul Road police had earlier registered a vehicle lifting case against Asif. However, based on Asif’s confessions during his interrogation, the additional FIR was submitted in the court. Assistant Public Prosecutor Kiran Patil has filed the additional FIR for sedition, criminal conspiracy and under the Arms Act.
Asif’s police custody is due to expire on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Hubli Bar Association decided to keep off court proceedings on Tuesday as a mark of protest against terrorist activities in the State.
A committee was constituted to decide whether any any association member should be allowed to file an application on Asif’s behalf.
