The top police officers' attempt to convince banks in setting up security measures reached an impasse.
Against the backdrop of the robbery case at Andhra Bank Rajajeshwari Nagar branch, on Tuesday, the officers including the City Police Commissioner N Achutha Rao, Joint Commissioner and the six DCPs, and one ACP from each division, a host of police inspectors and sub-inspectors convened a meeting with representatives of nationalised, private and co-operative banks to discuss security measures like installing CCTV, arm guards, metal detectors, alarms in all the branches.
However, the banks’ representatives said that they would follow the RBI guidelines on the issue. One of the representative said: “Even RBI is represented by an IPS officer and hence the officer concerned is well aware of the current situation and outcome of the security measures.”
