Kodagu district Co-operative Bank President M A Ramesh said that as many as one lakh people will be brought under Yashaswini health insurance scheme through various co-operative societies in 2008-09.
Speaking at the district committee meeting here on Tuesday, he said in 2007-08, 41,987 people were brought under the scheme.
As many as 39,330 identity cards have been distributed. The remaining will be distributed through co-operative sectors after printing.
Under Yashaswini scheme, one can avail facilities in the hospitals for 1,600 ailments. In Kodagu district till January end, 290 persons have availed the benefit and the expenditure was Rs 29,90,000.
District Hospital in Madikeri, Vaivas and Athreya hospital in Virajpet will come under the scheme. A letter has been written to the government to include Ashwini hospital under the scheme.
He urged the officials to create an awareness on the scheme among the people.
Co-operative Society Deputy Registrar Mohammed Jaffula Khan, DCC Bank Managing Director A C Divakar, District Co-operative Union President M P Muthappa and others were present on the occasion.
