The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected the bail plea of Rubina Memon, who has been convicted by the Special TADA Court for her involvement in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case.
Rubina, the sister-in-law of absconding prime accused Tiger Memon, was convicted of abetment and conspiracy to carry out the blasts by the Special Court last year.
A bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishan dismissed the plea of Rubina and ordered setting up of a medical board to assess the mental health of Yusuf Memon. The court will take a decision on his bail application after his medical check-up results are in.
Both had moved the apex court challenging the verdict convicting them in the case. They have been awarded life sentences.
Rubina was not given the death sentence because she was a woman. She was found guilty of allowing her Maruti van to be used for the transportation of weapons and arms, and also for allowing her flat to be used for a conspiracy meeting.
