University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Dr Sukhdev Singh Thorat is one ofthe five eminent personalities on whom the Gulbarga university has conferred upon honorary doctorate.

Governor Rameshwar Thakur who is the chancellor of the university has given his approval to the university’s proposal to honour them with honorary doctorate at its annual convocation scheduled to be held here on Februray 18. Dr Thorat has been chosen for the award for his yeoman contributions in the field of education.
The other four selected are well known novelist and Karnataka Sahitya Academy chairman Geetha Nagbhushan (Literature), Galangalappa Patil (Industry), Dr Syed Shah Khusro Hussaini, the Sajjada Nasheen of the Khwaza Bandanawaz Dargah; and Chennabasappa Halahalli (both for education).
