A high-profile case is the right adrenaline for the men in khaki. On Tuesday, the City police zeroed in on a seven-member gang and not only solved a double murder case but also recovered coffee beans worth lakhs of rupees from them.
A truckload of consignment - 3.5 tonnes of Arabica coffee beans from Bababudangiri hills in Chikmagalur district - owned by a VIP, was waylaid near Birur Cross on the highway on Monday. Miscreants not only hijacked the lorry, but also murdered the driver and the cleaner. The gang burnt the bodies near Charmadi Ghat and escaped with the booty.
Immediately, the DG’s office was alerted. After a hurriedly-called meeting, a team of officers was deployed to crack the case.
A senior police officer told Deccan Herald the consignment belonged to Siddhartha, Maharashtra Governor S M Krishna's son-in-law, who owns many coffee outlets.
A City police inspector has played a major role in nabbing the gang which was trying to sell the beans in Hassan.
Now, the gang has been taken to an unknown destination for interrogation.
