Man killed in wall collapse
DH News Service, Bangalore:
A bar bender died on the spot when a supporting wall collapsed at a construction site near Balekundri Circle on Cunningham Road on Thursday evening. Three other workers were lucky to survive.

The deceased has been identified as Sreenivas (25), a native of Tamil Nadu. The accident site was located behind the Parsi temple at the corner of Queens Road –Cunningham Road. Police said, the property belonged to one Mr Ansari. Nearly a dozen workers were on the job, working on one of the pillars at the corner of the site, when the accident occurred.
Tragedy struck at around 2:40 pm, after lunch break, when five of them - Mallesh, Nagappa, Pirappa, Mallappa and Sreenivas- were engrossed in bending steel rods on the pillar.
According to a fire force senior officer, the accident could have been averted if the builders had taken precaution and safety measures.
Nagappa (28) with tear-filled eyes told Deccan Herald, "I heard some creaking noise and saw Mallesh and Pirappa running in opposite directions. By the time, I could realise what was happening a huge load of mud came down on me. I couldn't move as a metal rod pierced my right thigh. It was pitch dark; I could not open my mouth as I was buried. Thank god, after struggling for some time, I managed to crane my neck out and breath but couldn't move my body until the rescue team saved me.”
Manhandled
An angry public went berserk after witnessing the entire rescue operation. The situation turned ugly after a few friends and associates of the property owner lost their cool and behaved rudely. Things went out of control when one of them reportedly used foul language.
Immediately, a section of the public pulled him aside and vented out their anger on him. Timely intervention by the police saved him. Meanwhile, the Commercial street police station have booked a negligence case.
