The British pensioners Cyril Sergeant and Madge Robbins have become the country’s oldest newlyweds both aged 89.

The couple met 18 months ago at St James’ church, Birmingham, and exchanged vows on February 14. Sergeant, whose former wife Anna died four years ago and who has two sons, stepped in to offer Robbins a lift to church when a mutual friend fell ill.

He then took the opportunity to ask Robbins, who had four kids by her former husband, Ron, who died 14 years ago, out to the pub.

“For most people it is love at 18 but for us it’s love at 89. I feel like a teenager again, Cyril is a real charmer,” The Telegraph quoted Robbins, as saying.

“I never expected to marry or settle down with somebody ever again but we are very happy together so I couldn’t turn the offer down. “I think the best thing about it is the companionship, you need somebody even at my age,” she added.

Sergeant said that he never thought he would fall head over heels in love with someone again.
“We had a lovely time at the pub, really hit it off and after 18 months, I realised we were in love, something I never thought I would feel ever again,” he said.
