Rohit R Gowda shocked top seed Kashyap Ashok in a keenly contested match to enter the final of the under-14 boys section in the Tennis Advantage All India ranking junior tournament at the St John’s Sports Complex here on Thursday.
Rohit won 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. It was Kashyap, however, who called the shots in the beginning as he bagged first set with ease 6-3, breaking his fourth seeded opponent twice in the process. The initial stages of the second set suggested a romp for the top seed as he wrested a 3-0 lead.
At that stage, it appeared to be just a matter of time before Kashyap pocketed the match. But Rohit found the steam at the right moment and began to play a determined game. Rohit won the set 6-4. There was hardly any fight from Kashyap in the final set as Rohit broke his opponent twice while winning the set 6-3.
Rohit will face Nikhil Reddy in the final. Nikhil had an easy day in the office beating Prateesh K 6-2, 6-0.
In the corresponding girls event, matches went according to the script with top two seeds SP Ritu and Preethi Ujjaini advancing to the title round.
