Saavan’s fighting 74 went in vain as Jupiter CA lost to Herons CC by 57 runs in the quarterfinal of the N Balaji Memorial MTR Nivarana Basavanagudi Cup at the National High School grounds here on Thursday.

Heron’s, who were asked to bat first made 193 for six in 25 overs, thanks mainly to Sasi Kumar’s brisk 55 which came off only 34 balls and was laced with seven hits to the fence and one over it. Abhinav Kumar (39) and KN Ramesh (37) were the other notable contributors for Herons, while Nikhil Kashyap chipped in with a useful 27.

In reply, Saavan, whose 63-ball 74 contained six boundaries and two sixes, waged a lone battle as Jupiter could muster only 136 before being bundled out in the 22nd over. P Srinivasa Murthy was the pick of the Herons bowlers with figures of 3-23, while Nikhil followed up his useful contribution with the bat with two for 23.

Riding on Devraj Patil’s 61, Swastic Union defeated FUCC by five wickets in the another last eight encounter. FUCC, who were inserted in were bowled out for 166 with DC Rajesh being the wrecker-in-chief with figures of 4-19. In reply, Patil lead the run chase as Swastic romped home with 17 balls to spare.
