Anju take silver in Doha
Doha:
India's Anju George won the silver medal in long jump on the opening day of the Asian indoor athletic championships here on Thursday, narrowly missing out on the top spot.

Anju leapt to 6.38 metres in her fifth attempt, finishing just one centimetre behind China’s Chen Yaling, the gold medal winner.

Anju had won the silver in the previous edition of the meet too, finishing behind Maha Hanoaka of Japan, who holds the meet record at 6.40 metres. M A Prajusha won the bronze with a jump of 6.09 metres.

In the morning, Olga Rypakova of Kazakhstan leapt to 14.23 metres to win the women's triple jump gold with a meet record.

Meanwhile, Sergy Zassim-ovich of Kazakhstan won the high jump gold with a championship record effort of 2.24M, eclipsing the 2.23M mark registered by Yuriy Pakhlyayev in Tehran four years back.
