A co-ordination committee, comprising associations of primary school and high school teachers and PU college lecturers and MLCs representing teachers’ constituencies, on Thursday threatened to hold an indefinite bundh if the government fails to withdraw its recent order making Bachelor in Education (BEd) compulsory for PU college lecturers.
Talking to the media in Bangalore, the Committee President and MLC M Nadagouda termed the government order as irrational and unscientific.
“PU college lecturers will be master degree holders. How can the government ask a double degree holder to again do BEd?” he asked.
Though the Centre had directed all states to implement this rule in 2003, the elected governments in the State had refused as it was deemed unscientific. But under the President’s rule, it has been implemented in the State, he pointed out.
Besides, the government has stopped salary to lecturers of 26 aided PU colleges that have secured C grade from NAAC in the last three months. “The Governor should not take such major policy decisions. They should be left to the elected government,” he said.
Mr Nadagouda also alleged that the government primary and high school teachers and PU college lecturers are not getting their salary in time.
