Presiding over the 19th Sammelana of the Karnataka History Congress, organised by the Department of History and Archaeology, Tumkur University, he said that historians had a very important role to play in making the local global. 

“It is local needs that inspire us to take up newer avenues of studying history. There is no meaning in analysing local history as living or genuine histor, “ he said. “It is a process of reconciling our perception and the bigger picture and only then will things become clear,” said Prof Telgavi.
