A class nine student of a coastal Orissa High school was stabbed by a senior student after the former reportedly defeated his senior in sports and other competitions in the school. The seriously injured student  has been hospitalised. The incident occurred at Balia in Kendrapara district.

Nihar Nayak (14), student of government run Balia High School was returning home after attending a coaching class when Rajesh Parida (15), a class X student of the same school, stopped him and stabbed on his neck. Rajesh fled from the spot after the incident. Nihar was taken to a local hospital immediately and was subsequently shifted to a better health centre after his condition deteriorated.

The Kendrapara district police have registered a case on the basis of a first information report (FIR) filed by Nihar’s father. Rajesh is yet to be nabbed as he is absconding.

Preliminary investigation by the police revealed that Rajesh had become envious due to  Nihar’s success in sports as well as other competitions in the school.
