Gymkhana ride on Beerala's knock
DH News Service, Bangalore:
Mithun Beerala struck a quick half-century to guide Malleswaram Gymkhana to a 59-run over Bangalore Cricketers and to berth in the semifinals of the MTR Nivarana Basavanagudi Cup here on Friday.

Beerala’s breezy 67 (60b, 10x4, 1x6) helped Gymkhana to post 234 for seven in the stipulated 30 overs after opted to bat. Srivatsa Puranik and Raju Bhatkal chipped in with well-made 30s as the winners raced past 200-run mark.

Having needed to score over seven runs per over, Bangalore Cricketers were under pressure straightaway. To add to their woes, none of their batsmen build on the starts.

Sunil Chinnaswamy and Hidayat looked promising during their stay, but could not carry on.

Left-arm spinner Anand Katti grabbed four wickets for the winners as Bangalore team could manage only 175 before getting bundled out in the final over of the day.

Colts in semis

Gymkhana will take on Jayanagar Colts in the semis. Colts registered a narrow 20-run win over Jawans Cricket Club with C Raghu coming up with an all-round performance.

After smashing a 42-ball 56 to help Colts to a formidable 221 for nine in 30 overs, the off-spinner captured three wickets as the winners restricted Jawans to 201.

For Colts Mahalinga made a fine 62.

Naveen Shankar claimed three wickets for 31 runs to lend Raghu good support.

Brief scores:

Malleshwaram Gymkhana: 234/7 in 30 overs (Mithun Beerala 67, Srivatsa Puranik 37, Raju Bhatkal 33; Nelson Pinto 3-47) bt Bangalore Cricketers: 175 all out in 30 overs (T Habib 28, Sunil Chinnaswamy 30, Hidayath 38; Sunil Kumar 2-19, Anand Katti 4-34, Raju Khatkal 2-27)

Jayanagar Colts: 221/9 30 overs (C Raghu 56, S Mahalinga 62, Naveen Shankar 25; Syed Kashi 3-30, Sandeep Hebbar 2-44, S R Deepu 2-32) bt Jawans CC: 201 all out (Yogesh 37, Vignesh 28; C Raghu 3-40, Naveen Shankar 3-31, C Raghavendra 2-31).
