Golden Chariot trial run begins
Bangalore, dhns: The Golden Chariot chugged off on its technical run from Yeshwantpur station by 9 pm on Wednesday. Altogether, 35 people, mostly railway and tourism officials, were on board during its maiden seven-day, seven-night trip.
KSTDC PRO Ratnakar said, “The train will touch Mysore by 11.30 and will halt there for the night.” The team will be taken on a sight-seeing trip around Mysore on Thursday. The Ranganthittu bird sanctuary, Srirangapatnam and a visit to `Rangayana’ theatre where local artistes will showcase art forms of Mysore are the spots that passengers will be taken to by road. The train is slated to return to Bangalore on February 27 morning.
Teachers’ list on display
Bangalore, dhns: Candidates selected for the post of high-school teachers and physical education teachers for 2007-08 will be published on Thursday. It will be on display at offices of assistant directors of all divisions and deputy directors of all districts. Objections, if any, can be submitted to assistant director of the division by Feb 28. The list will be posted on www.kar.nic.in/nemaka - on Friday.
Over 6,500 rly jobs on hold
Bangalore, dhns: The Railway Recruitment Board has put on hold the filling up of vacancies in 6,700 posts of the Class `C’ and Class `D’ categories in South Western Railway (SWR) due to ongoing agitations all over the State, said Praveen Kumar, General Manager, South Western Railway.
Speaking to reporters after releasing `Souvenir 2008’ of Bangalore division of South Western Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation, he said 2,000 recruitments in Class ‘C’ category and 4,700 in Class ‘D’ cadre were pending.
Clarification on rolls sought
Bangalore, dhns: The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (OCEO) has sought a clarification from the Election Commission of India whether to go ahead with the publication of the final notification of voters’ list on March 10 or wait till the assembly constituencies are redrawn as per the recommendations of the delimitation commission. The OCEO has already published the draft voters’ list for assembly constituencies in the State and has called for objections. The final notification was proposed to be announced on March 10. However, with President Pratibha Patil giving her assent to the Union Cabinet’s proposal to accept the recommendations of the Delimitation Commission, the OCEO has to prepare the list in accordance with the redrawn boundaries. “We are waiting for directions from ECI and will proceed accordingly,” officials said.
Centenary fest of research station
Bangalore, dhns: The centenary celebrations of Agricultural Research Station, now known as main agricultural research station, was celebrated here on Wednesday.
The institution was founded in 1906 and Dr L C Coleman was the key man behind it. In 1913, Mysore agricultural school was started and Sir M Visvesvaraya, then Diwan of Mysore State, was instrumental in starting it.
Protest against hostel conditions
Bangalore, dhns: The women folk of Bangalore University on Wednesday took to the streets and protested against the ‘unhealthy environment’ at their hostels. They also demanded a clean atmosphere in the hostel. Students, on condition of anonymity, said, “The hostel sans basic facilities –– water, decent food and lighting.”
They called off the strike after Vice-Chancellor Prof H A Ranganath visited the hostel.
