The real calling
B V Prathyusha
This techie prefers to be in the beauty business.

Pallavi Idoor offers an explanation as to why she and many other software professionals seek a change in career at a very early stage. “The industry pays well, and when I was in college there was an IT boom, so I got into the field. But the jobs are such that there’s a lot of stress and it gets very monotonous. So people get tired of it very early,” says Pallavi who also decided to leave her job with Wipro and go off the beaten track. Pallavi decided to start her own salon and spa, following a diploma in cosmotology and facial make-up, which she did after she left the techie’s job.

After she completed her course, she was offered a position in many spas in the City but turned them down, “I had to work late and also travel quite a distance, this was a problem because I have a baby boy. I wanted to start my own place so I could also work at my pace. It was at this time that Patels Inn Resort came up with an offer,” she says. Pallavi was offered space to set up a salon and spa in the resort’s premises and she immediately took it up. The Sparkle salon and spa took four months of hard work and it opened around July last year. A combination of warm and bright c olours, makes the space inviting and homely. Hygienic and fairly spacious, the salon and the spa is open to everyone and not just to the members of the resort.

The salon offers a wide range of facilities, Pallavi says that the ‘Four layer age define treatment’ is a speciality.
She says the most popular treatments include the Vita-C Ultra glow facial, chocolate facial and the fruit facial. The spa offers ayurvedic, Swedish and Thai massages. With chocolate massage, Aroma therapy and the likes, the spa has become fairly popular.

The massages start around Rs 800 and go up depending on the type of massage. There are memberships available as well, starting from two months and going up to one year. Says Pallavi, “I am now satisfied. I own this place and I am doing what I want to.” She hopes to open more branches in the City, in the future, “I want to have many branches and I want people to know brand Sparkle! Setting up this place was my first step to a bigger success. Can you believe that my friends laughed at me.

“They were worried and said that I was crazy to leave a ‘good’ job and set up a salon and spa!”
Sparkle beauty salon and spa is located near the BDA complex in RT Nagar. Spa treatments are by appointment only, for details and appointments call: 64535544.
