Who's the worst?
Smita Balram Kumar
Recently Eddie Murphie (for 'Norbit') and singer-turned actress Lindsay Lohan (for 'I know who killed me') were voted as the worst actors at the Oscar spoof - 'The Golden Raspberry Awards 2007'. Metrolife decided to ask Bangalores celeb-movie buffs to cast their vote for the worst actors and films from amchi Bollywood.

The year 2007 saw some landmark films like Taare Zameen Par and Chak De India, raked in the moolah with multiplex cinema like Bheja Fry, Cheeni Kum and Life In a Metro and entertained the masses with masala flicks Om Shanti Om, Partner and Bhool Bhulaiya.

Several films were also blown into smithereens at the box office. According to City’s cineastes, damp squibs Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag (RGV Ki Aag), Jhoom Barabar Jhoom and Saawariya take the red carpet for the Bollywood Razzies 2007.

RGV Ki Aag, from the once-upon-a-time credible film-maker Ram Gopal Varma, has won the maximum number of votes for the worst film category.

Corporate head honcho Apurv Nagpal has thrashed the Sholay remake on his movie blogging site. Says Apurv, "RGV Ki Aag is by far the worst film of 2007. Therefore, the worst actors trophies go to Nisha Kothari and Prashant Raj (who played Jay). It takes a lot of effort to destroy a classic and these guys were extremely successful at that."

Agrees hair expert Swati Gupta, “RGV Ki Aag is the worst film ever in the history of Indian cinema. A special award must go to Nisha Kothari - Best actress in the obscene category. In general, Katrina Kaif and Kangana Ranaut desperately need acting classes. Upen Patel for Namastey London undoubtedly takes the worst actor trophy.”

Another name is Himesh Reshammiya. With his trademark cap to hide the receding hairline and poignant nasal offerings, Himesh’s `acting prowess’ in Aap ka Suroor failed to receive adulation.

Nods DJ Hussain, "My vote goes to Himesh. He went overboard with every emotion. Hope he improves in his next film Karzzz.”

The much-hyped Ranbir and Sonam Kapoor starrer Saawariya bombed at the box office.

Interestingly, Madhuri Dixit’s million dollar smile could not win many hearts too. Says DJ Hussain, “No more does Madhuri have that superstar quality. She danced brilliantly but her acting has deteriorated post marriage.”

Indeed, Bangalore has the highest population of discerning movie-goers.

Another vote for Himesh comes from rallyist Anitha Kholay. "Himesh is a strong contender for worst actor category. Again, acting is not Fardeen Khan. He may pass off in a multi-starrer like Heyy Baby but cannot carry a film on his shoulders. And Neha Dhupia and Celina Jaitley, how much of a sex
symbol can they be?"

I believe each film has a tone, a subject and a message. But Saawariya was not upto the mark. Much importance was given to aesthetics. It’s based on a Russian love story but it lacked substance.
