In the backdrop of the cases where certain people brought non-family members while taking photographs to possess more than one ration card, the DC gave this instruction during the Food Adalat held here on Saturday.
Such cases have not been recovered in Kodagu, but have been come to light in other districts, which have come to the attention of the Food and Civil Supplies Secretary, he said and asked the deputy director to take measures to write to the tahsildars, taluk panchayat executive officers, village accountant and secretaries of gram panchayats.
The DC said public could directly complain to him or to the Food department if they came across any cases of ineligible people having BPL cards.
Some government employees are also possessing BPL cards, who can return the same to the department within 15 days. Otherwise, strict actions will be taken against them or a criminal case will be registered, he cautioned.
Reacting on the complaint of the public that cleanliness was not being maintained in hotels properly, Mr Niranjan asked the City Municipal Council and Health department officials accompanied by Food Inspectors to take actions against such hotels.
The DC also assured that Food Adalats would be conducted in taluk and hobali centres for the public convenience. Officials were present in the meeting.
