Members of the Bangalore Milk Suppliers Union on Saturday demanded that the Government must impose a ban on sale of milk and milk products, supplied by private sector dairy units from the neighbouring states.
The members of the union staged a protest at Ramamurthy Nagar and alleged that the private sector dairy units from the neighbouring states were exploiting the local market and that the government should not allow the sale of milk and milk products by such companies in the State.
“Private sector dairy units should not be allowed to sell their products in the State. The ban on the such units would help the State-owned Nandini milk and milk products to have better sales,” said, S Muniswamy, President, Bangalore Milk Suppliers Union.
“The private companies charge Rs 18 for a litre and Rs 6 for 200 gram curd, while Nandini charges only Rs 16 for a litre and Rs 5 for 200 gram curd,” he said.
The demands include payment of 25 per cent commission on the milk sales to milk suppliers, giving annual bonus and provision for insurance cover to milk suppliers.
