The minimum temperature, six notches below normal, has dipped by 2.1 degree Celsius compared to yesterday’s 4 degrees Celsius, the Met office said.
The maximum temperature on Friday was 20.2 degree Celsius, three degrees below normal for the season. It will mainly be a clear sky with light rains or thundershowers in the night in the next twenty four hours, predicts the weather office. The MeT office has also forecast the minimum temperature to climb to six degree Celsius, a departure from the past few days when the capital has been experiencing intense cold wave conditions.
The season’s lowest was recorded at 1.9 degrees Celsius on January two while the second lowest was recorded on January 28 at 2.3 degree Celsius.
The unusual cold spell in the capital has forced the Delhi Government to shut down all primary schools.
Meanwhile, the cold wave sweeping Punjab and Haryana showed no signs of relenting, with Adampur plummeting to the season’s coldest record of minus two degrees celsius. Ambala in Haryana, dipped to a minimum temperature of 0.3 degrees celsius, eight degrees below normal range, the Meteorological Department said here.
Karnal froze under the impact of severe chill, with the low dropping to 0.1 degrees C, seven notches below normal while Narnaul braved a cold night at 1.7 C, down by four degrees.
The low at Hisar settled at 5.1 C, two degrees below normal. Chandigarh was under the grip of piercing chill and the low settled at two degrees celsius, five below normal.
