Arifa, a five year-old resident of Vinobhanagar, DG Halli, was administered the hanging drops test for which she tested positive at Bowring Hospital, while a 54 year old woman from Neelasandra tested positive for the same at St Philomena’s Hospital.
About 44 cases of GE were reported in the City with five cases in Isolation Hospital, 21 cases at Corporation Maternity Home, 10 cases in Bowring Hospital and eight cases in St Philomena’s Hospital.
Five water samples were taken from Bharathinagar and surrounding areas and sent to Public Health Institute for testing, according to a press release issued by the BBMP.
Borewells shut
As many as 22 borewells, including 19 in Bharatinagar area where the gastro enteritis and cholera cases first broke out, have been shutdown as water samples from them have tested positive for the e.Coli bacteria.
The other three borewells were in Malleswaram.
In all, 19 out of 46 water samples taken from different parts of Bharatinagar showed traces of contamination, said BWSSB chief engineer T Venkataraju.
