The process was held in three stages in the district. The process was started in November and the works were completed in two phases by December. As per the revision based on the results of the two phase, 7,336 names were included and 28,659 names were dropped and a list of 3,49,460 names was prepared and submitted to the Commission. The Commission rejected the list and ordered for a comprehensive revision. Accordingly, the revision was held in three phases and was held from the grass roots itself, said voters list registration officer Akram Pasha.
He said that the revision was based on the estimation that there was a population of 5,88,152 in 2007 in the district, which included 4,13,783 voters.
In the third phase of the revision it was decided to drop about 65,989 who were identified to be deceased, transferred and those having dual entries and 9,574 names were proposed to be entered as new names to the list.
He said that according to the revised list 3,57,368 people in the district are eligible to cast votes.
In Virajpete, of 1,28,418 voters, 23,346 have been dropped and 3,975 new names have been added, in Madikeri, of 1,30,383 voters, 16,176 names have been dropped and 2,780 have been added.
In Somwarpete, out of 1,54,977 voters, 2,819 names have been dropped and 26,567 have been added.
Mr Pasha said that the draft of revised voters’ list will be released on Feb 7 and objections will be invited and after scrutinising the objections the final list will be released by March 10.
The photograph of the voters for the ID will be clicked on February 11 across the district, he added.
