STATE GAMES / BDFA XI bow out in penalty shoot-out
Gritty Shimoga pull off thrilling win
From Sajith B Warrier, DH News Service, Mandya:

Bangalore District Football Association XI made an ignominious exit from the State Games after going down 3-4 to Shimoga via tie-breaker at the PET College grounds here on Monday.

Shimoga had gone 1-0 up in the ninth minute thanks to BDFA’s Magesh Babu, who in the process of clearing an opposition attempt, found his own net. Nanda Kumar helped BDFA draw level in the 70th minute with a long cross.

In the shootout Khalender, Sameer and Sunil were bang on target for Shimoga, while Jeelan missed one.
For BDFA, the joint winners of the inter-district football tournament, Magesh Babu and B Prakash scored. Aneesh Kumar’s and Suji Kumar’s strikes were saved by Shimoga custodian Abhishek, while Jai Kumar hit wide to bring an early end to their campaign.

In the semifinals, Shimoga will take on hosts Mandya, who edged past Kodagu 3-2. Srikanth (2nd), Girish (3rd) and Bharath (22nd) scored for the winners, while Hemanth Kumar (49th) and Dinesh (57th) reduced the deficit for Kodagu.

Meanwhile, in volleyball, Super Division and ‘A’ Division champions KSP showed their State Games title intentions pretty clear with a 25-16, 25-20, 25-20 win over a hapless Sports Hostel in the match played at the Vishvesvaraya  stadium.

Ravindra and Nagaraju were at their attacking best for the Policemen, who were playing without Prithviraj, who is yet to recover from the ankle injury he sustained in the Super Division final a couple of months ago.
State champions Rangers SC defeated Seshadripuram CC 24-13 in the inaugural match of netball which saw some close matches.

In the women’s section, riding on an excellent show from Divya B Dasar and Leela, who were part of the National squad which played in the Asian Youth Girls championship in Bangalore a couple of years ago, favourites RSA Sports Club drubbed Vasavi Vidyaniketan 37-8
