Kolar, Maddur ryots to protest in B’lore
Bangalore, DHNS: Hundreds of farmers from Kolar and Maddur on a ‘padayatra’ in support of their various demands including special package for sugarcane growers will reach Bangalore on Tuesday.
BJP Raitha Morcha President Eshwarachandra Hosmani told reporters that farmers had started from Maddur and Kolar on February 2 and 3 respectively. A meeting will be held at Mahatma Gandhi statue in Bangalore on Tuesday and a memorandum will be presented to the Governor. Hosamani said the state should have a uniform policy for sugarcane procurement and support price in all growing areas and crushing points.
Other demands include setting up of cold storage facilities for horticulture and floriculture produce, minimum support price for coconut, taking up desilting of lakes on a war footing and completion of irrigation works on time.
‘Don’t give importance to defectors’
The Marketing and Mass Contact Programme Committee of KPCC has appealed to AICC President Sonia Gandhi not to admit to Congress those leaders who lay down conditions for joining the party.
Committee L R Ananth and Convenor L N Murthy said on Monday there are many senior workers in the party who have remained loyal without seeking any posts. “Greater representation should be given to such loyal workers,” they said.
