A bridge of miseries in Kolar
DH News Service, Kolar:
The traffic on the busy Srinivaspur road or Bamboo Bazaar road has been affected once again as the bridge on it at Vinayaka Nagar has caved in resulting in the formation of a big hole which has made it dangerous for the movement of vehicles.

The bridge at the first place is not conducive for the movement of vehicles as it dilapidated and has caved in many times in the past.

The bridge has been built using big stone boulder over a canal which carries water from Antargange hill in Kolar to Ammani tank. The bridge which is constructed using Gaare (mortar) is not fit for the movement.

Motorist fallen prey
But to the contrary there is heavy movement of goods carriers on the bridge which has rendered it lifeless. There are instances were motorists in the night have fallen prey to this pothole and have severely hurt their hands and legs.

Whenever a part of bridge collapses CMC by laying few boulder has washed its hands of from the issue. Though the citizens have demanded the construction of new bridge their pleas seems have fallen as usual on the deaf ears of the lethargic officials.

One of the strong reason for the sorry state of the bridge is the confusion and shifting of the responsibilities among the two departments.

Since the bridge is constructed over a canal the CMC argument is it comes under the Small Irrigation Department. The Small Irrigation has desilted the canal whenever the rains accompanied by silt had stopped the flow of the water in the canal but it hasn’t bothered to construct a bridge.

Mystery unsolved
As all the roads in the city belongs to CMC the bridge on Bamboo bazaar road also belongs to the CMC, is the argument of the Irrigation Department.  Even today the departments have not been able to solve the mystery of who should repair the bridge. This is reason for the abject state of the bridge.

But in this ugly fight of the departments it is the people who have been made the scapegoat.
