Protest against termination
Anganwadi centres to be closed tomorrow
DH News Service, Managlore:

Protesting against the termination of a anganwadi worker for not working for the revision of voters’ list in Kundapur taluk, all the Anganwadi centres in the district will be closed on February 7, said Anganwadi workers and Assistant Association President Jayalakshmi.

Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday, she said in spite of having a government circular that Anganwadi workers should not be utilised for other departmental works, Anganwadi workers are pressurised to work in the revision of voters list. When a Anganwadi worker failed to work, she was terminated in Kundapur. In protest against this, State Anganwadi Workers and Assistants Committee has called for Anganwadi bundh.

She also alleged that anganwadi workers are paid only honourarium.

In a separate press release, State Anganwadi Workers Federation Vice-President Leelavathi said that the association will hold ‘Raajabhavana chalo’ urging the government to fulfil various demands.

The demands include not to pressurise the workers to work in other departmental works, those workers who have completed 25 years of service and wish to retire should be paid a compensation of Rs 1 lakh and assistants should be paid a sum of Rs 50,000. The summer holiday should be extended to one month.
