Vaccination drive began on Tuesday in Cooch Behar district where six cows died of anthrax, official sources said.
The drive will take place in the adjoining areas of Bhojaner-Chhara village in Mathabhanga, where six cattle died of anthrax last Friday.
Animal Resources Development Minister Anisur Rahman said anthrax was common and a team of ARD vets has rushed to the area.
With blood samples of the dead cattle testing positive, the death of cattles created a buzz in the district in the wake of bird flu scare. Over 90,000 cattle have been vaccinated in Orissa’s Koraput district following spread of deadly anthrax, which was suspected to have claimed lives of four persons in Sunabeda and Semiliguda areas, official sources said on Tuesday.
“A vigorous immunisation drive has been launched in the entire district,” Chief District Veterinary Officer S K Takri said.
Four persons have died due to suspected anthrax in Sunabeda and Semiliguda areas in the last 12 days. Others were also suffering from the disease, sources said.
