The Union government has advised BJP’s prime ministerial candidate L K Advani to reduce his public appearances for about a month in the wake of intelligence reports of possible “suicide attacks” during his rallies across the country.
The government’s view was personally conveyed to Advani by National Security Advisor M K Narayanan when the latter met him on Monday. Narayanan asked the Bharatiya Janata Party leader to minimise his public exposure for four to five weeks.
In the wake of the “intelligence alert”, the Bharatiya Janata Party has cancelled its February 10 public meeting at Rampur, Uttar Pradesh. Other public meetings in Uttar Pradesh also stand cancelled.
The first rally in Jabalpur, to be addressed by Advani as part is the “Sankalp Yatra” , will take place on Wednesday as scheduled, according to party spokesperson Prakash Javadaker.
