Mandya spikers move past Postal
From Sajith B Warrier, DH News Service, Mandya:
Mandya defeated Postal 25-18, 25-14, 19-25, 26-24 in a thrilling four-setter in the volleyball encounter of the State Games at the Sir M Visvesvaraya Stadium here on Tuesday.

With two defeats in as many games, Postal’s chances of entering the knock-out round look bleak.

It looked as though the Postal players had not recovered from their long drawn out battle with CIL the previous night as they surrendered the first two sets without much of a fight.

However, spiker Lakshminarayan was at his best in the third set and he was excellently supported by setter Satish. Postal took the third set 25-19 and had only themselves to blame in the fourth set where they twice squandered four-point leads and a set point. At 24-23, they had the set in their hands, but poor reception let them down again as Mandya drew level through Harsha's lethal smash before taking two points in a jiffy to close the contest.

Meanwhile, the women's tennis final will be an all-Mysore affair with top seed Chirasanthi set to take on Anupama. Chirasanthi defeated fancied Bangalore girl S P Ritu 6-1, 6-3 at the PET College outdoor courts, while Anupama breezed past another Bangalorean Akansha 6-3, 6-3.

Kolar will take on Dharwad in the football semifinals. In the quarterfinal tie held at the PET College grounds, riding on a brace from Jayaveer, Kolar, featuring HASC striker Xavier Vijayakumar in their ranks, blanked Dakshina Kannada 6-0, while Dharwad defeated Belgaum 3-1.
