Visiting England Lions made a strong comeback to hold advantage over Central Zone at the close on the third and penultimate day of their Duleep Trophy match here on Tuesday.
Having conceded a handy 105-run lead on Monday, Lions’ bowlers made up for their batsmen’s lapses by skittling Central, who resumed at 23 for two, for a modest 180 in their second innings.
Chasing a competitive target of 286 for an outright win, Lions’ batsmen made great amends to their first innings failures finishing the day on a highly satisfying 146 for the loss of opener JL Denly.
Another opener MA Carberry (71 batting) and skipper MH Yardy (57 batting), however, off set the early loss with an unbeaten 116-run association for the second wicket to give themselves a realistic chance of a fine victory.
For the visitors paceman Graham Onions was the pick of the bowlers with a three for 40.
