They kneeled down and sought forgiveness of his family, they even went to the Deputy Commissioner to seek his intervention to sort the matter out, despite this, the top officials of ICICI Bank went into deep slumber, and slapped notices on the family of Manjunath.
The Bank has issued three notices on a single day, January1, 2008, in Manjunath’s name to family members stating they must pay up Rs 50,055 within five days. The amount of the loan as been spilt into three parts with notices stating Manjunath needs to pay up Rs 7,839, Rs 38,850 and Rs 3,866 towards agriculture implements.
The farmer Manjunath from Hosapura in Nanjangud, who committed suicide a few months ago, owing to harassment meted out by the ICICI Bank recovery agents has been issued notices three times over since his death. This has been done despite the fact that the matter is still being investigated by the team appointed by Reserve Bank of India and if the bank is found guilty, the authorities have to pay up Rs 10 lakh as damages to the family of the deceased.
However, the bank officials were not available for any comments.
Manjunath in his suicide note had named ICICI as the sole reason for taking the extreme step. After this, farmers from across the state had gathered before Mysore branch of ICICI back, forcing the authorities to close transactions for couple of days.
