Adoption of environment-friendly practices is imperative to the success of market economies across the world, Reinhard Hans Butikofer, President of the Alliance 90/Greens Party, Germany said on Tuesday, while delivering a talk on ‘To get green and grow — Arguments for a green market economy’ organised by the Bangalore International Centre.
Calling for more environment-conscious market models, he said the focus should be on mobilising a consensus that adoption of green practices would also translate to economic success. “The shift to a green market economy will come at a price but the cost of inaction will be manifold,” he said.
Butikofer said the party had, during its attempt to bring about the change in Germany, run into opposition from the automobile industry.
