At least 11 persons person died and several others were injured in three separate incidents including one drowning incident in Nagamangala taluk in Mandya district on Tuesday.
Six persons died and 15 others were injured in a bus and truck collision on NH 48 near Nagathihalli in Nagamangala taluk in the early hours of Tuesday. The accident occurred when the KSRTC bus, following a tyre burst, hit the truck parked along the road.
The Bangalore-bound bus with passengers from Dharmasthala and Kukke Subramanya hit the truck around 3.30 am. The front portion of the bus was jammed due to the impact, resulting in instant death of five persons. One person died en route to hospital.
Most of the deceased were from Bangalore and have been identified as Saraswatamma (45), her grand daughter Niharika (2), both from Sunkenahalli in Bangalore, and Manjulabai (28) from Ittamadu, Banashankari third stage, Lalitamma (40) from Srirampura in Bangalore and Dharmendra from Madikeri. The body of the lady conductor, Akkalamma (20) was crushed beyond recognition. While bus driver fled the scene, two persons sitting in the truck cabin escaped unhurt. All the victims were admitted to B G Hospital in Nagamangala. Bhindiganavile police have registered a case. The truck which was carrying minerals from Hassan to Malur was parked without switching on the parking lights. Owing to poor visibility in the morning, the driver noticed the truck being parked only when he came too close.
Children drowned
Two girls and a boy, who had come to attend the rituals of their deceased relative, drowned in a mini tank Dondemadahalli near Devalapura in Nagamangala taluk on Tuesday morning. Poornima (15), Ramadas (11) and Bhagya (9) had gone close to the tank to answer nature’s call when they slipped and fell into the tank. The tank was said to have been dug haphazardly by a contractor under works granted under drought relief programme in the area.
All the three hailed from Doddauppala village in same taluk had come to Dondemadahalli a few days ago. Police later fished out all the three bodies. Nagamangala rural police have registered a case.
Scooter riders
In another accident, Thimmegowda (35) and Siddalingaiah (50) died when the scooter into which they were riding rammed into a goods truck near Nelligere on Monday night.
Thimmegowda died on the spot while Siddalingaiah died in NIMHANS, Bangalore on Tuesday. The duo were travelling from Bellur cross to Kadamanchenahalli while the lorry was proceeding from Mysore towards Tumkur. The accident occurred near Karabhailu circle. Bellur police have lodged a complaint.
