Suicide bombing 'not a new concept'
DH News Service, Bangalore:

Suicide bombing is not a new concept. Nathuram Godse came close to a suicide bomber. He made three attempts before he could finally assassinate Mahatma Gandhi.

At a national seminar on “Terrorism Disaster” in Bangalore, Mr Sri Kumar, Director General of Police on Wednesday said: “Anybody who makes repeated attempts to kill someone is also prepared to die.”

Mr Kumar, who was part of the investigation in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, said that as the investigation could conclusively prove the role of the LTTE in the former prime minister’s assassination, the LTTE network was broken and other targets in India escaped. “Any crime needs to be thoroughly investigated and brought to a conclusive end. Use of science and technology are extremely important in investigating crime, specially suicide bombing. Investigating agencies need to be technology savvy to counter terrorism,” he said.
“All investigations should however, be carried within the parameters of human rights,” he added.

The three-day seminar, organised by the DG and Commandant General, Home Guards and International Resource centre concluded on Wednesday.
