Indian Handicrafts and Handlooms have made a name for themselves globally. Ancient skills have been honed to perfection by master craftsmen and weavers. Today, this tradition unfolds itself in an overwhelming variety of products, combining aesthetic appeal with utilitarian value and meet international demands.
Most of these handcrafted objects are for home or for office uses and gifts. The most discerning factor about these traditional crafts and weaves is that each has a distinct identity of its own with its origins located in culture, tradition, lifestyle and resources of the region of its genesis. Though the craftsmanship received much appreciation from different parts of the world, the artisans could not market their
products.
Therefore, many art forms in the country almost went into the oblivion. It was against this background that the ‘Crafts and Weaves’ stepped in to salvage country's rich traditional forms and create a livelihood for the artisans.
Well networked
Crafts and Weaves has been set up to pay attention to development, promotion and marketing of the artistic handicraft and handloom and to preserve the cultural heritage and the traditional character. So these products are marketed through a network of ‘Crafts and Weaves’ showrooms and exhibitions/ craft bazaars.
So that artisans and weavers can sell their products to the customers without middle men with meagre margin. Crafts and Weaves is participating in the International trade fair to assess the demand for these handloom and handicraft products and to explore the possibility of entering into the export market.
