Taking full advantage of the under-prepared court, the Indian stormed past his opponent 6-3 6-3 6-1 in the lopsided first rubber in little over an hour on a chilly morning at the DLTA Courts. Bopanna stamped his authority with some crisp serve and volley throughout the 75-minute match.
In the second singles of the day, Denis Istomin beat Somdev Varman 6-3 6-4 6-2 to level the India-Uzbekistan Davis Cup tie 1-1.
