The joyous expression on children's face said it all. And why not when their favourite cartoon characters were performing live...

Do you get irritated as well as surprised when children don’t pay attention to what you are saying when they are watching their favourite cartoon channel? Don’t be! Just understand that they may be physically here but their senses have been transported to the beautiful world of magic, colour and make-believe.

Walt Disney (Walter Elias Disney), born in 1901, started working on ‘The magic’ at the tender age of nineteen. He created Mickey Mouse at the age of 27, inspired by the mice that came to the garbage in his studio in Kansas City, the USA. He even kept three of them as pets in cages and christened Mickey based on one of them. Walt made the first full-length animated film ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ in 1938 and thus opened a new chapter in the history of entertainment.

No one really knew what to expect in the first show of Disney Live on Thursday evening at the Koramangala Indoor Stadium. But when the young audience had a look at their Toon Town favourites — Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck and Goofy, they were in raptures.

The two-hour programme, brought to India by DNA Networks, was a colourful blast of magic and fun. Magicians Benny and Brad enthralled the crowd with their tricks. The icing on the cake was the popular 15 Disney characters including Alice (in Wonderland) and the Mad Hatter making their appearances. Princesses Cinderella, Belle, Jasmine and Snow White — drew gasps of joy from the girls for their beautiful costumes. From jaw-dropping levitation to stunning sawing-in-half sequence, the Disney magicians presented commendable illusions. Cinderella’s rags turned into a beautiful ball gown and the enchanted dancing brooms in Fantasia helped sweep Minnie off her feet.

The 250 students of St Charles’ School, Kamanahalli, had a blast of a time, so did the 165 children of Bosco Vocational School and Navajivana Centre for Girls.

Talking to Metrolife about their experience of performing in India, Magicians Brad Ross and Alex Gonzalez said that the audience was `‘phenomenal’’ and their “energy was out of this world”. They added that they had performed in 11 countries including Thailand, Singapore, Japan and China till now, and India, that “has a certain mystique about magic, was by far the best!”

Speaking on the uniqueness of performing in different countries, Lisa Skubovius, Performance Director, said very aptly, “Children, the world over, understand the language of fun,” which was why the Disney team ensured that the experience was immensely joyous and thrilling.

Producer Kenneth Feld has brought together a good show that will continue till February 20. Overall, a ‘magical’ experience; the only catch — popcorn at Rs 150 per packet.

Tickets are priced at Rs 500, Rs 750 and Rs 1,000. For booking, log on to www.ticketpro.in. Tickets are also available at Sigma Mall, Garuda Mall and Forum.
