Karnataka High Court created a history of sorts on Friday by imposing a fine of Rs 60,000 on a petitioner for requesting adjournment of the hearing unnecessarily!
Justice Anand Bairareddy imposed the hefty fine on Pramukh Halfman International Limited (PHIL), an Andhra Pradesh-based company, when it sought adjournment of hearing in the case relating to supply of registration name plates.
Whenever, the court took up the matter to deliver the final verdict, the petitioners used to request the court to postpone the hearing. Repeated pleas irked the court and the judge fixed February 19 as the next date of hearing and imposed the fine.
Petition filed
A petition has been filed in HC requesting it to direct Mysore University to annual the appointment of Prof Goverdhan Mehta as member of the search committee, which has been constituted to find a suitable person as vice-chancellor.
In his petition N P Amrutesh, an advocate, requested the Court to stay the February 12 search committee meeting.
Land acquisition
HC felt that the State in excess of its eminent domain could not pick and choose land for compulsory acquisition.
The Court quashed the notification issued to acquire the land of a petitioner after it was learnt that Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) discriminated in the land acquisition process.
The court directed KIADB to issue proper order in this regard.

The High Court on Friday ordered local sub-registrar to furnish all records related to sale of a site in Judicial Extension near Yelahanka in Bangalore.
The Court is hearing a petition filed by Judicial Layout Residents’ Welfare Association against the Judicial Layout Housing Co-operative Society.
Division bench comprising justices Ramamohan Reddy and H Billappa gave four week’s time to furnish the details.
