They did not turn a blind eye to their dreams to one day make their own films or even star in them but instead are part of a week-long workshop conducted by FilmCamp.TV, an organisation which teaches, produces and screens short films. About 30 visually challenged students from the Sri Rakhum School for the Blind (SRSB) are scripting, shooting and acting in their own short films.
The students were in attendance at the II Bengalooru International Film Festival on Wednesday where 20 short films made in the workshops were screened.
Split into six groups including one person who is partially sighted to lead the team, they will make six films. These will be showcased at the 10th anniversary of SRCB.
To teach these students elements about different shots, wooden frames of different sizes were made. The students will also star in the short films playing the characters. “We are trying to reach filmmaking to everyone,” said Chief Director of the organisation, Sanjay Nambiar. These students say they love the celluloid, be it action films starring Darshan or syrupy love stories. “This work shop has made me believe that I can make a film ,” says 19-year-old S Rangappa, who is partially blind.
