Addressing press persons here on Wednesday, the College Principal Fr Swebert D’Silva said the workshop would impart hands on training in the field of bioprocess technology and phytochemical analysis of plant secondary metabolites.
The workshop will be conducted in the laboratory itself, and the participants will be research scholars, undergraduate and pre-university lectures in any branch of life sciences, he said. The college will also hold a series of Dr Wilhem Kueppers Memorial Lectures on January 11 at the Eric Mathias Hall in the IT building.
Prof Bo Mattiasson will speak on “Biogas as energy carrier-an attractive alternative” while Dr Rajni Hatti-Kaul will speak on “Biodegradable chemicals and materials from renewable biomass- road to biorefinery”. Both are Swedish scientists from the University of Lund. Prof Mattiasson’s special interest is in environmental biotechnology and biotechnology for developing countries, while the expertise of Dr Kaul is in biotechnology for the production of “green chemicals” from renewable resources, explained the Biotechnology PG Department head Dr Smitha Hegde. Kueppers Biotech Unit Director Dr Fr Leo D’Souza was present in the press meet.
