The villagers here have urged the deputy commissioner to give up the idea of making a road which is of no use to them and instead make the road that has being used by the public since the last 60 years.
The 1.5 km stretch that passes through Ponnasamudra from Singreddyhalli has been repaired often by the gram panchayat, taluk panchayat and the public works departments spending lakhs of rupees. This is the road that everyone has been using since the last 60 years and there was no problem at all these years.
The road was quite good and the villagers are very familiar with this stretch, they charged.
This road is now being developed at a cost of Rs 15 lakh under Nabard scheme and more than four bridges are being built apart from the road being widened. The contractors have already been awarded Rs 6 lakh.
However, a few of the villagers have made it a prestige issue and demanding that the road should be done according to the map and they are bringing pressure on the officers and thus ruining the peaceful atmosphere in the village, they have alleged.
The villagers are asking how the demand for the road to be done according to the map has suddenly come up.
In the map since the last 40 years apart from arecanut, coconut, neem, tamarind there are several other costly trees grow. Even borewells have been dug.
Besides, it may be recalled that many here have given up their land for the road about 50 years back itself, they said.
Those who are demanding the road to be build according to the map are the ones who do not have to give up their land.
Since there is a lot of vested interest involved some of th em are playing mischief as they do not in fact lose anything. Also they can give trouble to the people who already have fully grown trees in their lands which will have to be cut, the villagers said.
Hence, the deputy commissioner should visit the place and inspect and give a solution, the villagers have demanded.
